Syracuse.com Spotlights Vigilare AI's Privacy-First Approach to AI Security

October 2026

Syracuse.com has profiled Vigilare AI and TitanOps, our approach to AI security that flags behavior, not identity. The story, “Syracuse startup says it can offer AI security without Flock-style tracking,” lands as New York communities reconsider how much surveillance technology should collect.

A bigger question

As New York considers new regulations around surveillance technology, we think the conversation should start with a bigger question: why are we creating massive, centralized databases of people’s movements in the first place?

At Vigilare AI, we’re taking a different approach.

Behaviors, not identities

TitanOps connects to the security cameras a customer already owns and alerts their team when it sees something that may deserve attention: a fight, a fall, someone slipping through a gate.

“Something that’s important to us is we identify the behaviors. What the person’s doing, not who the person is.”
— Angelo Niforatos, co-founder and CEO

It is designed to do this without identifying a face or reading a license plate.

Your data stays yours

  • Customer-owned hardware. TitanOps can run on equipment at the customer’s location, keeping detections and incident records locally rather than in a database controlled by us.
  • Complete isolation. For organizations that need it, we offer fully local AI processing, with limits on the number of cameras supported.

We make money by selling technology, not by selling anyone’s surveillance data.

The cameras saw it. Someone needed to know in time.

Think about how many cameras you pass on an average day: parking lots, store entrances, loading docks, hallways. Sometimes someone is watching, but usually no one is. And when the footage does get reviewed, it’s almost always after the fact.

  • After the purse was snatched
  • After someone fell and couldn’t get up
  • After the driver stranded at the far end of a dark lot gave up waiting for help
  • After the forklift was left in gear and rolled off the ramp

The impact of events like these is lessened when someone knows in time. That is the problem we are working on.

“TitanOps is watching all the time. It’s not replacing the people. It’s making them more efficient.”
— Brennan Thierry, co-founder and COO

Our philosophy

Technology should improve public safety without unnecessarily compromising personal privacy. That means minimizing data collection, being transparent about how information is processed, and keeping customers in control of their data.

We’re not advocates of widespread tracking, and we’re not in the business of selling data. We are advocates of making security teams more effective, improving quality control, and getting to people in need faster.

We’re not replacing judgment. We’re protecting it.
